It's been emotional
Dec. 7th, 2017 08:49 pmTwo of the Spanish girls from my group work for an organization that works with adults with down syndrome and the like. They invited me to a Christmas concert that these guys were putting on at a local church. I thought it might be a good opportunity for the Spanish group to experience some British culture so I posted it on our facebook page but no-one else wanted to go so I went by myself. I always feel comfortable in church anyway, because I was brought up in one and I didn't mind sitting by myself joining in the Christmas songs.
The concert itself sounded dreadful. The people singing couldn't hold a note but I just thought that to God it probably sounded beautiful because they were genuinely giving everything. There was one girl who stood on the stage ready to sing, and when the music started she said into the mic: "I can't do it" and she started to walk off. Then one of the workers came up to her and put her arms round her they sang together. It was really touching; had me welling up.
It was an unusual night but a very special way to get into the Christmas spirit.
