I volunteered to preach at my church a few weeks ago and this week the minister sent me a theme to preach on (if I'm up for it in November) - it's a little unusual - it's the last of 7 sermons (over 7 Sundays) on 'The Reformation'. If you're unsure what the Reformation is, it happened about 500 years ago when a German monk called Martin Luther criticized the Church on a number of issues, was expelled, and then set up his own 'protest' (protestant) church. It revolutionized Europe spiritually and politically and raises some really interesting points about change and our attitude towards it. Not your typical church sermon but an interesting one.
I've also just read a fascinating book called 'Torn' by Justin Lee. Justin Lee is a gay Christian who argues that if you look at the Bible thoroughly, gay relationships are acceptable (biblically). He presents a really good case and I recommend the book to anyone.
The church I go to is divided when it comes to changes. Many are open to it but a few are very much against it. Hopefully I'll be able to get everyone to consider their attitude towards change and at least remind them to act towards other people who have different perspectives with a more loving attitude - that's my mission. : )
