Overdosing on arthouse films
Jul. 14th, 2017 08:48 pmWednesday I spent another day in bed. I read, and watched 3 films. It was another relaxing day for a change.
One film was called 'Second Honeymoon'. I wasn't expecting much from it but ended up finding it fascinating. It was about a guy who arrived at his uncle's holiday home in Portugal with his newly wed wife. Then his wife went into the swimming pool and came out of the water a different woman. Then, as the film progressed she changed back and forth between the two women. It turned out that the other woman was his first wife, who he had been to the same locations with earlier. It was an interesting look at the dynamics of two different relationships...
Then I watched 'Down By Love'. It was about a married prison warden who was in charge of a women's prison and had an affair with an inmate. It was based on a true story apparently. It starred the actress from 'Blue is the Warmest Colour'. There's something about her...
I also watched a documentary on the band Oasis. I've always loved them but I found myself getting bored by the rock n roll excess. It was only later when they ran into a few problems that it got more interesting.
Thursday I went into work. I wasn't feeling great and my confidence in teaching had had disappeared but fortunately I had some lessons that went well so that picked me up again. I'm still struggling to stay positive at the moment because I'm not sure what the repercussions of that poor lesson observation will be. I might speak to the Head about it... get it off my chest.
The Spanish group in the evening met at my house in my garden. I put some music on and set up the chimnea and we just chilled out like we normally do. There were only 5 of us but it was tranquil. : )
Then today I cycled into work. We had a 'teacher day' so there were no kids. We had this motivational speaker who used to be a teacher and he was really good. Really funny with a philosophy about teaching that is totally on my wavelength - that things like data and ticking boxes is not what teaching is about. Passion and getting the kids into it are what it's about.
