I had another lesson observation today. Observations are stressful things for teachers. You never know what implications they can have. I had a couple of nightmares last night where I was in the classroom and the kids were going wild. Then just before the actual lesson today the thought occurred to me that what I had planned was absolutely crap....
Anyway, it started and I seemed to get in the zone; it just flowed. It was a lesson on Noah, which is an awesome story. I used 3 minutes from the Russell Crow movie. We discussed how it must have felt for Noah's family when they came off the ark ready to start the human race again. Then my students had to write a speech from Noah to his kids giving them advice on the future.
The inspectors left the room, but 5 minutes before the end of the lesson, they came back, apparently to pick up something they'd left behind. I asked the inspectors to listen to a few of the kids speeches and they came out really well.
My feedback at the end of the day was 'good with elements of outstanding'. Phew...
Considering every observation I've had from school in the last 2 years have come out as 'requires improvement', I'm now very relieved. It should mean that I'll be left to just get on with things again for a while.
